Sustainably Creative by Michael Nobbs

Little and Often

quiet…

…day at home. I had planned a walk but haven’t got further than the studio all day and now the light is on the way out. Still a slow day won’t hurt. I seem to have been out in the world a fair bit recently and being here in my own company is surprisingly refreshing. more »

do something…

…do anything – keep the flow flowing. One of the things I’ve learnt recently about sustainable creativity is the importance of flow. Flow doesn’t have to mean a gush of activity, a dribble is enough. The secret is just to keep something on the go. The pot bubbling gently. Over the last few months I’ve more »

out with the old…

This bag was my constant companion for about four years. I’ve carried numerous sketchbooks, laptops, pens, notebooks and chocolate wrappers around in it. It looks like it too. Today I had a wave of nostalgia for it and considered getting it out of mothballs and starting to reuse it. I’m really unsure whether I want more »

…from photos I found on my phone. Many thanks to Vanessa for the idea. I found I can transfer pictures from my phone to my gorgeous new iMac via Bluetooth. All very high tech and exciting. I shall take the phone with me tomorrow and take a few snaps to work on later. I do more »

It’s a good way to meet other drawing obsessives, swap ideas and generally indulge in geekiness about pens, sketchbooks and other paraphernalia. Great stuff. Recently someone suggested a weekly challenge whereby we draw something from more »

so much…

…for my comfort zone. It’s odd how just as soon as I decided that 2005 was going to be a year of maintaining and staying still someone just gave a cosmic bellow and started to have other ideas. I’ve had my rug ripped out from under me and surprisingly I’m not sorry. I do seem more »

keeping it small

In the studio this evening I’d planned a large drawing but was drawn to my box of gum instead. I haven’t got a huge attention span just now and can’t really get my head around anything very large. So for now I’m keeping it small, keeping it simple. I do so appreciate the way drawing more »

limited edition print/beany offer

I’m making a limited edition of ten prints of the drawing from this entry. It’s proved popular after its appearance on Moleskinerie. I can post the print to anywhere in the world. As with all the drawings I sell through this site anyone wishing to buy one can offer what they wish by clicking on more »

I'm Michael Nobbs, an artist, blogger and tea drinker (not necessarily in that order).

I'd like to show you that it is possible to stay creative even when energy is in short supply, and how working on small creative acts on a regular basis can build over time into a substantial body of work (and even a creative career).

I've written a book called Sustainable Creativity. You're welcome to pay whatever you would like for it.
