Sustainably Creative by Michael Nobbs

Little and Often

We should all have a big pink recipe book to help us celebrate our achievements

My favourite pink recipe bookI have a new favourite recipe book. It’s packed with (simple) recipes for celebratory cakes. Yesterday I pulled it off the shelf to find a recipe for a cake to bake to celebrate two online anniversaries.

Two milestones

Yesterday I reached two milestones. Two milestones reached by simple, one day at a time, little and often, steps.

My Twitter birthday!

The first was my Twitter birthday. I joined the site on the 21st June 2007 and have been tweeting about drawing and getting the Important Work done ever since. 8338 tweets (about six little 140 character messages a day) and counting. That feels quite an achievement. Definitely worth a cake.

A year of 750 words

The second milestone was reaching 365 consecutive days of writing over on 750words.com. If you don’t know it, 750words.com is a fabulous site for writing Morning Pages (or anything you like) online. What is so good about it is the the way the site gently encourages users to keep writing and rewards them with rather lovely badges for reaching little milestones (little milestones that build up over time into jolly big milestones of course!).

For a year now I’ve visited the site and written at least 750 words. Sometimes I moan and groan, sometimes I pick at ideas that are in my head, sometimes I write blog posts. Every day I write something (or at least paste in something I’ve written elsewhere that day). 367,897 words so far. Testament to how a little something every day can build into a big something. DEFINITELY worth a cake.

A day worthy of celebration

So yesterday felt like a day worthy of celebration (as you may know I’m a big fan of celebrating life’s little achievements), and so I pulled down my big pink recipe book. It wasn’t long before the kitchen was full of the smell of lemon sponge cooking in the oven. Possible less time again before the cake was made and filed with lemon curd and homemade gooseberry and elderflower jam! It’s sitting in the corner of the kitchen now as I type (well half of it is). A little reminder of how much can be achieved by working little and often.

Time for another slice.

Win a copy of my favourite recipe book

I think everyone should have a copy of my big pink recipe book to celebrate their little and often achievements. I wish I could give you all one, but I’m not Oprah. Instead I have added a copy to the My Favourite Things giveaway. Everyone who joins the new Sustainably Creative membership program before my birthday on the 10th July will automatically be entered in to the giveaway and stand a chance of winning a copy of the book (or one of my other favourite things). You can find out more about the membership package, or join up, here.
